Randy Hale's introduction to
watercolour came about as an
undergraduate at Principal College
above St. Louis. His mentor and
instructor was James Green, an
original member of notable
watercolourists coming out of Choinard
and Art Centre in Los Angeles during
the the early 1930's. They included
such notable names as Robert Woods,
Rex Brandt, Barse Miller, Milford
Zornes and Millard Sheets. These
watercolorists were instrumental in
creating a distinct style that has
become known as the California school
of watercolour. And one can easily
recognise their influence in his own
artistic work to this day.
He also earnt a graduate degree in
business from the University of
Denver. However, his immersion in
studies at California's prestigious Art
Centre College of Design in Pasadena,
CA was where he crafted a solid
foundation in composition and design.
